Met Department advises avoiding unnecessary travel, securing loose items, staying indoors

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for stormy weather and rain across several districts of Balochistan, lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and southern Punjab on Monday, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take safety precautions.
The department said strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Quetta, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Sibi and Kalat. Additionally, it said that lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and southern Punjab may face the same conditions.
It said that conditions could also turn severe in parts of southern and coastal Balochistan, with Kech, Panjgur, Washuk, Kharan, Khuzdar and Gwadar also likely to see gusty winds and rainfall.
“Isolated hailstorms may also occur during the period,” the advisory on X read.

The advisory also said that cold, dry weather is expected elsewhere in Pakistan, especially in hilly areas.
Officials advised people to stay indoors where possible, secure loose items and remain alert during thunderstorms, warning that travel in affected areas could be risky.
In a separate notice yesterday, the department said that Karachi may face rain and thunder on Tuesday, February 17.
