Ishraq Nazir appointed Alpine Club of Pakistan ambassador in Greece

Ayaz Ahmed Shigri, secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, was also present at the meeting

ISLAMABAD:

A Pakistan-born endurance athlete based in Greece has been named an ambassador of the Alpine Club of Pakistan after promoting the country’s image abroad through marathon running and adventure sports.

Ishraq Nazir met Major General Irfan Arshad Khan in Islamabad to present his international sporting achievements and initiatives aimed at projecting a positive image of Pakistan overseas.

Nazir briefed the official on his participation in several European marathons and symbolic feats including scuba diving in the Aegean Sea on Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day while carrying the national flag, skydiving with the flag, and a recent bungee jump at the historic Corinth Canal displaying Pakistan’s national colours.

He said the activities were intended to promote Pakistan through sports diplomacy and had received coverage in national media, including the Pakistan Television Corporation.

During the meeting, Nazir formally expressed his wish to dedicate the national flag he had carried across European skies and waters to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, presenting it to Major General Irfan Arshad Khan as a gesture of patriotism.

The major general praised the athlete’s efforts, saying such individual initiatives contribute to strengthening Pakistan’s soft image globally and encouraging youth engagement in sports.

In recognition of his international representation, the Alpine Club nominated Nazir as its ambassador in Greece.

Ayaz Ahmed Shigri, secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, was also present at the meeting, which concluded with both sides pledging to further promote Pakistan through adventure sports and international engagement.
