RAWALPINDI:

With Eidul Fitr shopping gathering momentum and amid a rise in street crime, Rawalpindi Police have implemented a new security plan across all commercial areas of the city.

Under the plan, the Safe City Command and Control Centre will provide real-time information – including suspects’ locations – directly to police teams and officers deployed in the field through surveillance cameras.

Police officials have also formed a special WhatsApp group to coordinate efforts to prevent street crime during the Eid shopping season. The group includes station house officers (SHOs) and DSPs from the relevant police stations.

According to police sources, additional personnel have been deployed in major commercial centres across Rawalpindi.

Sources said incidents such as car and motorcycle theft, purse snatching, and snatching near ATMs tend to increase during the Eid shopping period.

For the first time, the city police chief has introduced a special security plan for the Eid shopping days.
