Met Office warns of strong winds and downpours after storm kills 19; more rain forecast across Sindh
KARACHI:
Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Karachi again on Thursday, with temperatures expected to fall noticeably during the day, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office said a system of westerly winds is expected to persist over the city, contributing to unstable weather conditions and a drop in daytime temperatures.
Thunderclouds may develop near Karachi from morning through the afternoon, bringing moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds in different parts of the city. Isolated areas could also receive heavy downpours between the afternoon and evening or later at night.
Strong gusty winds and lightning are likely during rainfall, the PMD said.

The city’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 27°C and 29°C, while the minimum temperature recorded earlier in the day was 18.5°C. Winds were blowing from the northwest at a speed of 4 kilometres per hour at the time of the report.
The Met Office forecast mostly sunny conditions for Friday, while cloud cover is expected to return on Saturday under the influence of the current weather system, with more thunderstorms and rain likely.
A powerful thunderstorm system hit Karachi a day earlier, bringing heavy rain and strong winds across the city. Korangi recorded the highest rainfall at 55.6 millimetres, while other areas received between 15mm and 35mm.
The severe weather led to multiple incidents, leaving at least 19 people dead and several others injured during the storm.
Rain is also expected in parts of rural Sindh along with Karachi today, the Met Office added.
