Members of Muslim, Sikh, Christian communities gather at Krishna Mandir for Diwali

The festival of lights, Diwali, was celebrated at the historic Krishna Mandir in Lahore.

The celebration organised by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and the Punjab Ministry of Religious Affairs and Inter

faith Harmony brought together members of the Hindu community along with Muslim, Sikh, and Christian participants who joined in the festivities to express solidarity and goodwill.

The temple was illuminated with electric lights and garlands, creating an atmosphere filled with fragrance, devotion, and joy.

Prayers were performed and bhajans sung.

The temple priest, Pandit Kashi Ram, highlighted the spiritual significance of Diwali, describing it as “a festival of light, hope, and new beginnings – a day that marks the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.”

He said the Hindu community in Pakistan enjoys complete freedom to celebrate its religious festivals, which reflects the nation’s spirit of tolerance and coexistence.

Hindu youth Shiva Sharma, who attended the ceremony, said, “We celebrate our festivals in Pakistan with full religious freedom.

The participation of other communities and support from the government make these moments even more special.

We also take part in the festivals of Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians, sharing each other’s happiness.”

A woman, Aarti Devi, remarked, “Diwali is a message of joy, unity, and hope.

In Pakistan, we have complete freedom to perform our religious rituals and celebrate our festivals.

People of all faiths here respect each other’s beliefs, which is a true example of social harmony.”

ETPB Additional Secretary for Shrines Nasir Mushtaq cut the Diwali cake alongside Hindu community leaders and presented gifts on behalf of the board.

He said that respecting the religious festivals of minorities is both a moral and state responsibility. “Diwali stands as a living symbol of peace, love, and interfaith harmony,” he added.
