The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has announced plans to set up electric vehicle charging stations across the city to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the KMC Head Office with Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab in the chair, who directed relevant departments to begin work on setting up EV charging facilities in key areas of the metropolis.

In the first phase, charging stations will be installed along Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road.

Mayor Wahab said the initiative reflects Karachi’s commitment to building a greener and smarter urban future. “This project is not just about installing charging points — it’s about enabling citizens to shift from conventional fuel-based transport to cleaner and sustainable alternatives,” he said, adding that KMC will allocate land and develop the facilities using its own resources to ensure quick implementation.

He noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to introduce sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible urban infrastructure in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by Financial Advisor KMC Gulzar Abro, Director Media KMC Daniyal Alishan, Deputy Director Planning Musheer Mahar, and other senior officials.
