Pakistani actress Maya Ali has questioned the logic behind rising fuel prices, saying the move adds pressure on people already struggling with inflation during the holy month of Ramazan.

In a series of posts shared on Instagram, the actor said she understood that difficult times could occur during periods of economic or political uncertainty, but urged authorities and the public to also consider the hardships faced by daily wage earners.

“I know it’s a state of war and I understand that difficult times come with it,” she wrote. “But we should also think about the people whose homes depend on daily earnings, especially those who only have a bike and work every day just to feed their families.”

Maya Ali said many families were already finding it difficult to manage rising expenses and called for some relief during Ramazan.

“There should be some relief for those who are struggling, especially in Ramazan. For many families, their salaries or daily earnings are simply not enough,” she wrote, adding that many people cannot afford to stay home because they must continue working to support their families.

In a separate post, the actor also raised questions about the government’s explanation regarding fuel reserves.

“When the government says petrol and diesel reserves are only for a few days, then how does increasing the price suddenly solve the problem?” she asked. “If there isn’t enough petrol, will higher prices suddenly increase the supply too?”

Ali said people were already dealing with rising inflation and daily expenses, noting that many expected relief during Ramazan rather than additional financial pressure.

“People are already struggling with ‘mehngai’ and daily expenses. In this holy month, people expect some relief, not more pressure,” she wrote, ending her message with the question: “Matlab aur kitna?”

Ali began her career with a brief role in the telenovela Durr-e-Shehwar but gained wider recognition as the titular character in the romantic comedy Aunn Zara (2013) and as a veiled Muslimah in the social drama Shanakht (2014). She achieved her breakthrough with the romantic drama Mann Mayal (2016), which earned her the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress. She also found success with the romantic drama Mera Naam Yousuf Hai and the ensemble family drama Diyar-e-Dil (both 2015), with the latter earning her an additional Lux Style Award nomination for Best Actress.
