Nazish Jahangir reveals why she avoids heavy Iftar meals

KARACHI:

Pakistani television actor Nazish Jahangir says her approach to food is guided less by strict dieting and more by understanding her body’s limits.

Appearing as a guest on a Ramazan transmission hosted by Faysal Quraishi, the actor spoke candidly about her eating habits, revealing that although she considers herself a “foodie”, she cannot eat large portions in one sitting.

“I feel suffocated if I eat too much at once,” she shared, adding that she once experienced breathing difficulty after overeating. Since then, she has consciously managed her portion sizes.

Jahangir, who has appeared in several television dramas over the years, is often in the headlines not only for her performances and public appearances, but also for her outspoken views. During the programme, however, the conversation turned to her fitness and Ramadan routine.

She explained that she prefers eating in small portions, especially at iftar. Rather than consuming a heavy meal immediately after breaking her fast, she spaces out her food intake over the evening.

“There is nothing that can replace iftar at home,” she said, describing it as both a personal and comforting ritual. After breaking her fast, she continues to snack lightly in intervals until late at night a pattern she believes helps her maintain balance without feeling overwhelmed.

Her remarks offer a glimpse into how some public figures navigate food and fasting during Ramadan, balancing cultural traditions with personal health choices.

Born and raised in Islamabad, she initially graduated in fine arts and fashion designing. After her professor and renowned artist Jamal Shah encouraged her to pursue a career in performing arts, Jahangir moved to Karachi and started doing commercial theatre with Anwar Maqsood in 2015.

She made her TV debut in 2017 with Bharosa. Jahangir has also appeared in Kahin Deep Jaley, Alif, Allah Aur Insaan, Tohmat, Thays, Kam Zardari, Beparwah, Dard Rukta Nahi, Ghamandi, Inaam-e-Mohabbat, Berukhi, Teri Behisi, Saraab and Meray Mohsin.

In 2020, the actress revealed that she had been battling PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) for the last 10 years, and continues to struggle with mental health issues.

In 2022, Jahangir made her film debut with Lafengay, opposite Sami Khan.

In 2024, she appeared in the romantic comedy film Poppay Ki Wedding along with Khushhal Khan.

Jahangir has been nominated as a best emerging talent in TV, at Lux Style Awards.

Jahangir has appeared on the covers of multiple Pakistani magazines.
