LAHORE:
A district court on Wednesday granted police three-day physical remand of a woman in a case of gang rape of a foreign national.
Judicial Magistrate Azhar Mahmood approved the remand after police produced the suspect, Muskan, before the court amid tight security.
The court had initially reserved its decision on the police request for her physical remand.
The prosecution told the court that it was the suspect’s first physical remand and sought her custody for investigation.
The defence argued that the woman had no involvement in the incident and her relationship with the complainant was limited to friendship.
The defence counsel contended that the remand could not be sought except in connection with the charges of murder and robbery, maintaining that the police had nothing to recover from her.
The magistrate also asked the suspect whether she wanted to undergo a medical examination, which she declined.
The case was registered against the suspects at the Defence-C police station in Lahore on the complaint of an Azerbaijani national woman visiting the country.
