Unregulated heavy traffic in the city continues to pose a deadly threat to Karachiites, with three people killed and one injured in separate accidents across the metropolis.
A loader truck collided with a rickshaw near Northern Bypass in Manghopir, killing two persons on the spot. The victims, identified as 25-year-old Imran and 26-year-old Saad, were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
According to SHO Anis Ahmed of Manghopir police station, the truck hit the rickshaw carrying passengers including three children besides the driver. While the truck driver fled the scene, police impounded the vehicle. No cargo was on the truck at the time of the incident.
Family members said the victims lay stranded on the road for nearly 30 minutes after the crash. They were traveling from Manghopir to Orangi Town when the speeding truck bumped into their rickshaw.
Imran was the eldest of five siblings, while Saad was the sole breadwinner for his family following his father’s death. Relatives demanded strict regulation of heavy traffic to prevent more tragedies.
In another incident, a water tanker hit a motorcycle near Chamara Chowrangi in Korangi, killing one person and injuring another. The deceased, identified as Bilal, and the injured 15-year-old, Sajid, were shifted to JPMC.
SHO Nasser Mahmood of Korangi Industrial Area police station said the accident occurred while the motorcycle was traveling from Chamara Chowrangi to Godam Chowrangi.
Police impounded the tanker, and a person initially taken into custody was later, released after being identified as a bystander.
