HYDERABAD:
The murder of a police constable, allegedly killed by suspected outlaws during an encounter in Larkana district over two years ago, has been settled through a jirga with compensation of Rs three million to be paid to the bereaved family.
The jirga, held at Naudero Rest House on Sunday, was chaired by Municipal Committee Naudero Chairman Abdul Khaliq Bhutto and Vice Chairman Muhammad Anwar Buriro, who announced the verdict after hearing both sides.
Police constable Waseem Jarwar sustained a fatal gunshot wound during an alleged exchange of fire with suspects on August 13, 2023. He later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on August 21, 2023. The FIR registered after the incident had nominated several men belonging to the Shar caste.
A large number of people from the Jarwar and Shar communities attended the jirga, which reviewed grievances and available evidence before issuing its decision. The verdict was reportedly accepted by both parties.
According to sources, the accused paid Rs400,000 on the spot, while the remaining amount will be cleared in three to four instalments.
