RAWALPINDI:
The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has failed to achieve its property tax collection target for the outgoing fiscal year 2025-26 despite expanding the tax net and increasing property valuation rates notified by deputy commissioners.
The Director General Excise and Taxation has directed all officers and field staff to remain in the field for property tax recovery and has cancelled leave until June 30. As a result, ETOs, inspectors and staff of all five property tax zones have become fully active, sealing 362 defaulting property tax units during the past week.
During the same period, recoveries worth Rs9.3 million were made. Zone-IV ETO Abdul Qadir of Gujar Khan ranks first in property tax collection, while ETO Asim Sardar is second and ETO Kulsoom Zahra third in achieving targets.
Property tax recovery remains lowest in Zone-V despite the presence of major posh localities and large taxable units. Complaints regarding submission of bogus taxable properties from the zone had also been made to the DG. ETOs said two weeks still remain before the close of the fiscal year and substantial recoveries are expected during this period. Notices have already been issued to all defaulters and tax recovery operations are continuing at full pace from morning till night.
