At a time when social media is often criticised for promoting unrealistic standards of beauty and success, veteran actress Manisha Koirala is using her platform to deliver a different message – one rooted in self-acceptance, confidence and the courage to embrace life at any age.
The actress recently shared a series of photographs from her wellness trip to Thailand, accompanied by words that quickly struck a chord with followers. Rather than showcasing a glamorous holiday, Koirala turned the spotlight towards a larger conversation about self-worth, encouraging women to stop postponing their dreams and start choosing themselves.
“To every woman who thinks it’s too late – take the trip, start the journey, choose yourself,” she wrote on Instagram, describing her travels as part of an ongoing wellness journey. The message resonated with many women who often place personal aspirations on hold while juggling family responsibilities, careers and societal expectations.
A day earlier, Koirala had posted another reflection that expanded on the same theme. Sharing images of herself on a beach in Thailand, she urged women not to allow age, appearance or the opinions of others to dictate how they live their lives.
“Whatever your size, whatever your age, whatever stage of life you’re in – take the trip. Walk the beach. Wear the swimsuit. Take the photo,” she wrote. She encouraged followers to experience life fully and not let fear or judgement diminish their confidence.
The message carries particular weight coming from Koirala, whose own life story has been marked by resilience and reinvention. One of the most celebrated actresses of the 1990s, she built an acclaimed career through films such as ‘Saudagar’, ‘Bombay’, ‘1942: A Love Story’, ‘Khamoshi’, and ‘Dil Se’. Her performances earned both critical praise and widespread popularity across South Asia.
Beyond cinema, Koirala has become a symbol of personal strength. Over the years, she has spoken openly about life’s challenges, including her battle with cancer and the importance of physical and emotional wellbeing. Her advocacy for healthy living and mindful self-care has become an increasingly visible part of her public persona.
That evolution is reflected in her recent posts, which frame travel not as luxury but as an act of self-care and self-discovery. The emphasis is not on exotic destinations or curated perfection but on allowing oneself the freedom to experience joy without apology.
At 54, Koirala continues to remain active in the entertainment industry. Her most recent major role came in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s acclaimed period drama series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, where she appeared alongside a star-studded ensemble cast.
Yet it is her off-screen voice that is currently drawing attention. In a culture where women are frequently told what they should or should not do at different stages of life, Koirala’s message is refreshingly simple: there is no expiry date on happiness, adventure or self-belief.
For many of her followers, that reminder may be every bit as memorable as the roles that made her a star.
