Neglect leaves Haripur health centre crumbling

HARIPUR:

A Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Nara Amazi, Haripur district, has fallen into severe disrepair due to years of alleged neglect by the Health Department, leaving thousands of residents without access to basic healthcare services.

According to sources, the RHC building now resembles an abandoned structure, with its doors, windows, floors, and roof extensively damaged. The facility has reportedly remained vacant for a long time, while even access to the health centre has become difficult because of the absence of a proper approach road.

Sources further claimed that no doctors are currently posted at the facility. In their absence, medical technicians and Class-IV employees have allegedly been attending to patients, raising concerns about the quality and safety of healthcare services.

The deteriorated condition of the building has rendered it unfit for both staff accommodation and the provision of medical treatment. Despite its worsening state, the Health Department has reportedly failed to undertake renovation or maintenance work for several years, leaving the once-valuable public asset in a state of decay.

Residents said the surrounding population, numbering in the thousands, continues to be deprived of essential healthcare facilities and is forced to travel to hospitals in Swabi and Haripur for treatment.

The local community has urged the government to immediately restore the Rural Health Centre and ensure the appointment of qualified medical staff so that nearby residents can access essential healthcare services close to home.
