Nimra Khan speaks about overcoming post-marriage weight anxiety

Credits her husband for helping her dismantle the anxiety surrounding her weight gain

Pakistani actor Nimra Khan, fresh off the heels of her recent marriage, the star sat down for a candid conversation on a talk show, pulling back the curtain on the illusion of extreme celebrity diets and her journey toward true body acceptance. For Nimra, the conversation around fitness needs a shift away from aesthetic demand toward genuine well-being.

Reflecting on the conversations around her regarding body image, Nimra expressed frustration at how external validation dominates the fitness narrative. “I listen to people talk about losing weight just to fit into branded clothes, or to look good on TV. I don’t hear a single person say ‘I want to be healthy for myself’ or ‘I want to be fit for my own self-satisfaction.’ This isn’t anyone’s purpose here.”

She highlighted the stark contrast between local pressures and global perspectives on body positivity, challenging the deep-rooted culture of body shaming. “In other countries, it’s quite common to see sizes up to triple XL. They don’t have body shaming or complexes there. They like to just be happy in their own skin. They enjoy life just as much wearing a triple XL.”

Nimra candidly noted that as she gets older, her metabolism continuously shifts. What worked in her early twenties no longer has the same spontaneous results in her thirties; staying fit now demands significantly more intense effort and rigorous discipline. This natural progression initially triggered severe anxiety. “I used to get so depressed about it, telling myself ‘I need to lose weight, I look fat, I can’t accept how I look in the mirror,'” she admitted.

However, her recent marriage has brought a wave of much-needed emotional stability. Embracing what she calls a phase of “happy eating,” Nimra credits her husband for helping her dismantle the anxiety surrounding her weight gain. “Alhamdulillah, I am married now. I practice happy eating now, and it shows. My husband tells me one thing: ‘As long as you are happy, enjoy it.'”

To combat the mental fog of weight stress, her husband advised her to prioritise a structured, healthy daily schedule rather than focusing strictly on numbers. Acting on this advice, Nimra’s current routine revolves around high-energy morning workouts executed on an empty stomach. She uses a mix of skipping rope (averaging 300 to 500 reps) and solo Zumba sessions to burn calories and boost her mental clarity before diving into her day.

Nimra also used the platform to address her previously viral, highly restrictive “egg diet,” a regimen many fans tried to replicate after her last television appearance. In a refreshing display of honesty, she warned viewers that such extreme measures are unsustainable. “I used to tell the world that nobody could survive on my diet, and now, literally, I can’t even do it myself! It wasn’t the healthiest way to go. It’s meant for someone who has an urgent need to lose weight quickly.”

While she encourages those who have specific, short-term medical or professional milestones to pursue under proper guidance, she firmly advocates for a gradual, sustainable approach to fitness.

Beyond lifestyle habits, Nimra looked back at her professional trajectory, specifically the uphill battle of returning to the screen following a near-fatal car accident years ago. The landscape she stepped back into was vastly different from the one she had left.

“When I started, there were only about 8 to 9 prominent girls, but when I returned to the industry 3 years after my major accident, there were countless new actresses. So much talent! It changed the game from competing with others to competing with yourself, figuring out how to convince people and reclaim the space you once held.”

Through self-belief and continuous adaptation, Nimra has managed to rebuild her foothold, proving that showbiz, much like health, is a marathon, not a sprint.
